Currently featured at Fiber Arts Collective are embroidery works by Tammis Vaatveit. Employing layered and textured backgrounds with various stitching techniques, Tammis depicts birds knowing that there are so many species to choose from. Botanically dyed silks, linens, and cottons provide a background and environment for her subjects. She then appliqués and embroiders the birds using small scraps of fabric and threads. As Tammis describes, she loves the simplicity of fabric and thread as core elements to her compositions and she is grateful to work with such expressive materials.
Don't forget to join them for First Friday Art Walk, taking place February 2, from 5:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m.
