Mike Maple is a retired American photojournalist known for his candid, human-centered documentary photography. Born in Kansas City and raised in New Mexico and Tennessee, he began his career in New York at Time-Life, assisting some of the world’s most renowned photographers. By age 20, he was covering Ronald Reagan’s 1976 presidential campaign for Newsweek and soon became a full-time professional. Over more than 50 years, Mike photographed everything from wars and presidents to celebrities, models, and the social issues shaping American life. His work appeared in TIME, LIFE, Sports Illustrated, People, and international publications. In 2018, he donated his archives to the Briscoe Center for American History at the University of Texas in Austin. He now lives in Southern Oregon. Some of his work can be seen on display at the Jacksonville Inn.
