The subject of my work is almost always people and the relationship of two or more of them. For me, a successful painting evokes a response in the viewer: either fear, confusion, wonder, love or even humor.
I use photos, life sketches and a little imagination in preliminary drawings, manipulating space, and line and color. My focus is always on strong composition. When I find a pleasing yet challenging sketch, I transfer it to the board or canvas. As the painting progresses I often make big changes. I find this easy to do because of the faster drying nature of acrylics.
Recently, I have been experimenting with abstractions. These are never planned ahead of time but surprising journeys for me.
Solo exhibitions have included college of Marin, the Governors Ceremonial Offices in Salem, the Rogue Gallery and Art Center, and Hanson Howard Gallery in Ashland.
