WOODCARVING

Rogue Gallery & Art Center, 40 S. Bartlett St, Medford

Dirlene Wheeler has been a woodcarver for thirty plus years and has been a student of a number of national woodcarvers of the year.    She has won several awards for her woodcarving in Montana, Nebraska, and Oregon, including Best of Show in the Intermediate Division at the Montana Woodcarving Competition, Wyoming Landtrust Miniature Show Award, Honorable Mention at the Nebraskaland Days Art Show, and Best of Show and People’s Choice at the Celtic Show at the Rogue Gallery.  Besides woodcarving, she paints in watercolor and acrylic.  Her work is displayed at the Rogue Gallery and Art Center in Medford, and the upcoming Central Point Woodcarving Show, as well as many private collections.

Ms. Wheeler is retired from an award-winning education career that included teaching high school Biology, AP Biology, and Physical Science.  She was also a high school principal for 17 years.  Hence, her interest in carving and painting birds and wildlife, as well as people.  Her degrees are from Chadron State College where she took several art classes.
